Cuticura Pookkalam contest breaks existing record

Kochi, Aug. 25 (PTI): A new record was set at a 'Pookkalam contest', organised as part of the Onam celebrations here today, in which as many as 342 large flower carpets were arranged under one roof.
The Cuticura Pookkalam contest was participated by 1710 people.
The existing record as entered in the Limca Book of World Records, is of arranging 299 large 'pookkalam' by 1495 people during the last edition of the same contest, according to K A Murali Sundar, General Manager, Cuticura, Sales and Marketing.
He told reporters that as much as 3.86 tonnes of flowers were used for the entire exercise.
There were five members in each team.
The team led by Anoop from Kaippamangalam in Thrissur district won the first prize carrying 10 gold sovereigns.
This was the third edition of the contest and the programme was getting good response from the people, he said.
Special consolation prizes were given to all the participants in the contest.
