Pookalam competition enters Limca Book of Records

Kochi: Floral carpet contest organised by Cuticura, one of the talcum powder brands in the country, on Saturday, entered the Limca Book of Records for creating the maximum number of Pookalams, claimed Mr. M.C. Anand Kumar, Senior Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, Dorcas Market Makers Ltd, a part of the Cholayil Group, manufacturers of Cuticura.

According to him as many as 221 pookalams were arranged under a single roof at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium here. The judging committee consisted of 12 eminent judges. C.N.Karunakaram, former chairman. Lalitha Kala Akademi and senior artist, was the chairman of the Jury.

Mr. Kumar said that 2.5 tonnes of flowers were used to arrange the pookalams. Mr. Karunakaran, who addressed a press conference along with Mr. Kumar said that it was a tough task to judge the pookalams. He added that the event was visually very impressive.
